Peace, Cooperation & Opportunity for All

This past Sunday (July 13), the FIFA 2014 World Cup came to a close with Germany edging Argentina in the championship. In addition to feeding the appetites of countless soccer fans around the world, the month-long tournament lived up to the FIFA mission by reminding people and nations everywhere of just how connected and interdependent we are.

Similarly, Northwood University and the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women (IEEW) are dedicated to cultivating peace, cooperation, and opportunity for all by developing the best in business leadership and enterprise around the world. This past week, July 14-18, the two partnered for the eighth consecutive year to host the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® “Business Boot Camp” on our Cedar Hill, Texas campus.

Dedicated to the training and development of women business leaders from Afghanistan and Rwanda, PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® brings 30 participants each year to the U.S. for more intensive learning, including five informative and interactive days at Northwood University. In addition to business planning, finance, and digital marketing classes taught by Northwood faculty, this year’s participants heard presentations from leading corporations such as AT&T Technologies, Ernst & Young, and Office Depot. The week-long Boot Camp also included social outings and networking with area business leaders and was capped off by a special Crossing Over Ceremony on Thursday night (July 14).

In a perfect world, perhaps events like the World Cup and PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® Business Boot Camp would be everyday occurrences. But that is the point of hosting them in the first place: It is up to each of us to apply their example to our own work and lives.

Have a great weekend.
