Simulating a Business

It is officially summer on Northwood’s campus when our Richard DeVos Graduate School of Management students converge for their final capstone project: simulation.

This year, 176 students came to Midland for one of the largest simulations we have ever held. Professionals, entrepreneurs, lawyers, military members and recent graduates came together to form teams where they work to create a business from the ground up. In addition 20 students, some from as far away as Germany, joined via an online community to participate in an online version of the project.

The week-long event includes milestones such as board meetings—where students pitch their requests for capital and present on their progress to faculty members—peer evaluation reflections, and journaling time, where students chronicle their experience. It’s an exercise we use to push practical application, teamwork for a greater result, and to cultivate leadership skills.

For these MBA students, simulation represents the conclusion of their Northwood experience. It concludes their academic journey, but ignites their careers. On behalf of the Northwood family, congratulations to all of our simulation students on a job well done again this year!

Enjoy your weekend!
